The Bay to Park Paseo is a 1.7-mile temporary pedestrian experience along Park Boulevard, connecting San Diego Bay to Balboa Park at President’s Way. Organized by 13 teams of volunteer designers, artists, and storytellers, the project celebrates creativity and community.
For our installation, we developed a cross-border collaboration with elementary students from San Diego and Tijuana. Inspired by the superbloom—a stunning natural event that crosses borders effortlessly—we sought to highlight the shared beauty of nature. Cardboard tubes, designed as light sources, seating, and interactive elements, were sent to schools on both sides of the border. Students painted the tubes in bright, vivid colors, reflecting the striking appearance of the superbloom and emphasizing connection across boundaries.
